President Trump has banned CNN, Politico, and MS Now from accessing the White House, effective immediately. Trump announced this decision on his social media platform, Truth Social, citing their consistent reporting of "fake news." He stated that media outlets should not be allowed to publish or report fabricated stories when covering the President, his administration, or the United States.
Trump indicated that further media organizations could face similar exclusions. This action means that reporters from these outlets will be barred from White House press conferences and events. CNN is a globally recognized news network, and Politico is owned by the German media company Axel Springer. Details regarding the full scope of the ban, such as exclusion from the Air Force One, were not immediately clear. CNN, MS Now, Politico, and the National Press Club have not yet issued statements on the matter.
This is not the first time media access has been restricted under Trump. Early in his second term, access for the Associated Press (AP) to the White House was made more difficult. Trump has repeatedly urged networks to discontinue news or comedy programs that criticize or mock him or his administration. He has also called on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to revoke broadcast licenses for critical reporting.
